Shipping costs are influenced not only by the actual weight of your goods but also by the space they occupy. This is called volumetric weight, a key factor in international logistics that ensures fair pricing and optimizes cargo space.

Different transport modes use different formulas:

• Air: L × W × H ÷ 6000
• Express: L × W × H ÷ 5000
• Sea: 1 CBM = 1 ton
• Road: L × W × H ÷ 4000

A box measuring 60 × 50 × 40 cm with an actual weight of 12 kg has an air freight volumetric weight of 20 kg, making chargeable weight = 20 kg.

Reducing volumetric weight can lower shipping costs. This can be done by avoiding oversized packaging, minimizing empty space, using compact or vacuum packing, consolidating parcels, requesting repacking, and choosing sea freight when possible.
